How can adjustments help during Pregnancy?
Pain Relief
Pregnancy leads to significant physical changes, including weight gain and postural shifts. These changes can cause strain on the spine and surrounding muscles. Chiropractic adjustments can help alleviate discomfort by normalizing the motion required in the spine and improving overall function.
Improved Pelvic Alignment
Maintaining proper pelvic alignment is crucial during pregnancy, especially as the body prepares for childbirth. Your uterus is anchored to your pelvis, and if pelvis is not as optimally positioned as possible, abnormal pulling can occur which at times is the cause for “Round Ligament Pain”. A technique called “Webster technique” is one that we use at Midwest Chiropractic and focuses on balancing the pelvis, connecting ligaments (i.e. round ligament), and surrounding musculature. This technique allows for optimal balance and space of pelvis for baby to position better. Chiropractic care can help ensure that the pelvis is properly aligned, potentially leading to a smoother delivery process and faster recovery.
Reduction of Pregnancy-Related Symptoms
Many women experience nausea, headaches, and fatigue during pregnancy. Chiropractic adjustments help by improving the movement of the spine and ultimately taking stress off the nervous system. This in turn can reduce the severity of these symptoms by improving nervous system function and promoting relaxation.
Enhanced Overall Well-Being
Regular chiropractic visits can contribute to a feeling of well-being during pregnancy. By addressing musculoskeletal issues, chiropractic care can help improve sleep quality and increase energy levels. Think of it like this, if your body doesn’t have to put attention and focus on dysfunction and pain, it can disperse those resources to better uses; like growing a human and maintaining your body.
Want to go into birth and postpartum confident?
Research finds that moms who receive childbirth education have less fear and more confidence about the birth process and decrease their risk of unplanned C-sections, inductions, tearing! So what are you waiting for? Let us give you POWER in your birth.

Is it safe to get adjusted while pregnant?
One of the most common concerns among pregnant women is whether chiropractic adjustments are safe. The short answer is yes, chiropractic care is generally considered safe during pregnancy when performed by a qualified professional. Chiropractors who specialize in prenatal care are trained to adjust the body in a way that is safe for both the mother and the baby. We prioritize comfort at Midwest Chiropractic and make sure that any positions or adjustments are discussed prior to performing them. We also have specialized tables that can accommodate growing babies in the womb.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractic Adjustments during Pregnancy:
Can adjustments make for a faster labor?
I wish that the quick and easier answer was YES, but there is no definitive research to show that adjustments directly speed up labor. Unfortunately, there are too many variables in pregnancy and individuality of people’s anatomy, family history, and physiology, that this may never be studied.
Although, in my experience both professionally and personally, I have found that patients that pursue chiropractic care during pregnancy have an easier delivery with less complications. I personally have a fun story about the delivery of my second daughter after an at-home adjustment on my wife; this story is too long for this blog, but feel free to watch the podcast my wife and I did with How2Mom on the Mom2Mom Podcast.
What causes fast labors?
Fast labors, or precipitous labor, can occur due to factors like strong contractions, previous births, baby’s position, or pelvic shape. Chiropractic care can help by ensuring proper pelvic alignment, potentially facilitating a smoother, quicker labor. However, it’s important to be prepared, as rapid labor may pose some risks.
Can contractions start and then stop?
Contractions can begin and then stop, especially during early labor or false labor. These contractions might feel regular and strong but don’t lead to cervical dilation or progress toward active labor. This can happen as the body prepares for the real thing, but it doesn’t always result in immediate delivery. Chiropractic care can help with these irregular contractions by improving pelvic alignment, encouraging the baby’s optimal position, and reducing any tension in the body, which might help contractions become more effective when labor does start.
Can labor start and then stop?
Yes, labor can start and then stop, often called “false labor” or “prodromal labor.” Contractions may begin but fade away without leading to active labor. This can happen as the body prepares for delivery. Chiropractic care during pregnancy can help by ensuring proper pelvic alignment, which may help optimize the baby’s position and reduce discomfort, potentially encouraging smoother labor progression. If labor stops, chiropractic adjustments may help the body stay balanced and ready for when labor resumes. Always consult your healthcare provider for guidance.
Postpartum Care: "Now What?"
From an outside perspective, after child delivery, Mom is given limited resources on what to do to get back her body and recover faster. You’re given this baby, sent home, suggested to rest, come back after 6 weeks and that’s it! I feel post-partum moms are underserved in this category and there are many better solutions to this. After delivery, yes, your body needs to rest and heal which is typically recommended for a 2 week period but as more women seek faster, more effective recovery options, we utilize SoftwaveTRT as a treatment that can significantly enhance healing and overall well-being.
What is SoftwaveTRT?
SoftwaveTRT (Softwave Tissue Regeneration Therapy) is a non-invasive, pain-free therapy that uses advanced shockwave technology to promote cellular regeneration, reduce inflammation, and speed up recovery. By delivering focused acoustic waves to targeted areas, SoftwaveTRT stimulates the body’s natural healing processes, improving circulation, boosting tissue repair, and providing relief from pain. This technology has gained attention for its effectiveness in treating musculoskeletal issues, but its benefits extend into postpartum recovery, especially for women who have undergone C-sections.
How SoftwareTRT Supports Postpartum Healing
After childbirth, a woman’s body goes through significant changes, and while the experience is rewarding, it can also be physically demanding. The soft tissues, muscles, and pelvic floor all undergo strain during labor and delivery, especially after a C-section where abdominal muscles and tissue are surgically cut. SoftwaveTRT offers a natural solution to help women recover faster and more effectively by addressing the following key areas:
Accelerates Tissue Repair
SoftwaveTRT uses acoustic waves that penetrate deep into the tissues to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin—key proteins responsible for tissue repair and elasticity. This is particularly beneficial for women recovering from a C-section incision or vaginal tears after natural childbirth. The accelerated collagen production helps to heal wounds and scars more efficiently, potentially reducing the appearance of scar tissue over time.
Reduces Inflammation and Swelling
Postpartum swelling and inflammation are common, especially in the areas around the abdomen or pelvic floor after a C-section. SoftwaveTRT has been shown to effectively reduce inflammation by improving blood flow and lymphatic drainage. The gentle acoustic waves help to clear excess fluid from the tissues, reducing swelling, discomfort, and the risk of complications like infection.
Relieves Pain and Discomfort
One of the most immediate benefits of SoftwaveTRT is its ability to provide pain relief. Whether it’s from the incision site, uterine contractions, or the general strain of childbirth, many women experience discomfort during the postpartum period. SoftwaveTRT triggers the body’s natural pain-relieving mechanisms by increasing the production of endorphins, helping to alleviate both acute and chronic pain without the need for medication. We like to pair in stabilization exercises during this period to start to rehab and strengthen the injuries tissues.
Improves Circulation and Oxygenation
Circulation is crucial for the healing process, as it delivers vital nutrients and oxygen to damaged tissues. After a C-section, the abdominal muscles and skin around the incision site can be sluggish in terms of circulation. SoftwaveTRT promotes better blood flow, which aids in the delivery of nutrients to the tissues, accelerating recovery. The improved oxygenation also helps to support the overall regeneration of muscle and connective tissue.
Minimizes Scar Tissue Foundation
One of the common concerns after a C-section is the formation of scar tissue. Scar tissue can cause discomfort, restrict movement, and sometimes lead to adhesions or other complications. SoftwaveTRT’s ability to improve tissue regeneration and collagen formation can help minimize excessive scar tissue formation, making the healing process smoother and more aesthetically pleasing.
The Advantages of SoftwaveTRT over Traditional Methods?
While traditional methods like physical therapy, massage, and medication are still widely used for postpartum recovery, SoftwaveTRT offers several distinct advantages:
- Non-invasive: There are no needles, cuts, or invasive procedures required. The therapy is completely painless and requires no recovery time.
- Faster Recovery: Patients can often see improvement after just a few sessions. This is a significant advantage for new mothers who may have limited time for extensive recovery treatments.
- Drug-Free Pain Relief: For those looking to avoid or reduce their reliance on pain medications (which can have side effects or interact with breastfeeding), SoftwaveTRT offers a natural and effective alternative.
Pregnancy is truly a miraculous time, and as your body is going through physical changes, Chiropractors are trained to optimize function and improve pregnancy symptoms. After childbirth the recovery period, particularly following a C-section, can be a challenging and often uncomfortable time. SoftwaveTRT offers an innovative, drug-free solution that promotes faster healing, reduces pain, improves circulation, and supports pelvic floor health. SoftwaveTRT and Chiropractic combined can be an absolute game changer to get you back to your body and get you back faster. Its ability to accelerate tissue regeneration and reduce inflammation makes it an ideal treatment for new mothers looking to recover quickly and effectively, allowing them to focus on bonding with their newborns.
If you’re a new mom dealing with the physical challenges of postpartum recovery or recovering from a C-section, SoftwaveTRT could be the key to getting back to feeling like yourself again—sooner, with less pain, and with greater long-term health benefits.
It’s always important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new treatment after pregnancy or surgery, to ensure it’s appropriate for your specific recovery needs.
