How to Treat a Diaper Rash

How2Mom's 4 Tips to Treat a Diaper Rash...

It always broke my mama heart when one of my babies had a rash on their bum. I can just imagine how uncomfortable that must feel, and then to have to poop or pee when your skin is already irritated. I took this pretty serious as a mom, and always wanted to clear up my baby’s bum as soon as possible. Through my own experiences, I have a 4 step system that works, and works quickly!

1. Soak Bottom in Oatmeal Bath

Oatmeal baths can help because oats contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-itch properties. Oatmeal can also soothe the skin and will lock in moisture to help relieve irritation. Let baby soak for about 10-15 minutes.

Supplies for Oatmeal Bath

You can either use whole oats and place them in one of these cheesecloth bags, or you can use colloidal oatmeal, which is essential fine powder, which you can make at home by grinding whole oats in the food processor.

2. Pat & Air Dry Bottom

It’s better not to rinse baby off after giving an oatmeal bath, rather lift your baby out and gently pat their skin dry with a towel. I know this next step can be dangerous but I strongly encourage you to let baby air-dry for another 10-15 minutes. You can always place them on a pad between them and the floor or changing table. While they kick around, you can play pick-a-boo or read them a book. Good luck!

3. Apply Earth Mama Organics Diaper Balm

Earth Mama’s Organic Diaper Balm is USDA Certified made with organic lavender and tea tree essential oils, and St John’s Wort, chickweed, plantain, and calendula to protect and comfort painful or itchy skin. Not only is this balm gentle and effective, its dermatologist tested and clinically tested for irritation. So you can confidently smooth it onto your baby’s booty (or your big kid’s scraped knee) knowing you chose well.

A Quick How-To

Just apply a thin coat to the diaper area after each change and bath. Organic Diaper Balm doubles as a multi-tasking skin salve. Use this balm on your baby’s bum, under a band aid, or sneak it into your complexion-obsessed tween’s bathroom.

4. Find the Right Diaper

Sounds simple, but every baby and their skin sensitivities are different. Quality does matter in this department, but the biggest take-a-way is it may take time to find the right fit. I am biased and I know they are expensive but I always loved Pampers Swaddlers. My babies very rarely had any issues when using those diapers!

I hope these 4 tips help in treating your little one’s diaper rash! Again, quality and ingredients matter! I hope you and your little one both find relief soon!
