MN Great Get Together: State Fair

The Sinclairs LOVE The Great MN Get-Together and we try to go every year! Throughout the years, we have learned a bit about how to make the most of the day with kids in tow. This blog post will cover safety, savings, and staples of the Minnesota State Fair.

Safety

It can feel pretty intimidating to bring little kids to such a large gathering, but there are some things we can do to increase their safety!

We enter the Main Entrance off of Snelling and our very first stop is the Information Booth to receive ID Wristbands for each one of the kids. Heaven forbid one of our kids where to get lost, their wristband and the Information Booth has both mine and Brian’s information and phone numbers.

Another tip is to take a photo of your kids prior to entering the fair so that you can share exactly what they look like and what they are wearing if they were to go missing. When looking for your child, yell out details regarding their physically description. It may not be safety relating to the fair, but our family also has a safety code word and pick an area to meet if anyone gets separated.

Some other things to keep in mind for your family’s safety is bring a stroller no matter the age of your children, arrive early so you have less people in the crowd, and apply sunscreen beforehand!

Savings

Spending just one day at the MN State Fair can quickly get very expensive, so here we are sharing all the savings tips I have learned over the years!

First, make sure to bring your own water bottles to refill throughout the day. No one likes to spend $5 on one bottle of water! You can also plan to share the food your purchase with your entire family. Maybe not the Pronto Pup, but most of everything else has a healthy serving size! We usually just buy one of what we pick, and if we need more we get back in line, but usually it is more than enough!

Second, be strategic about the day you pick to visit! The MN State Fair schedules specific days where they offer discounted tickets for kids, usually on Opening Day and Labor Day. They also pick a specific day for Military families and a Kid Day! You can also look at days the fair offers discounted tickets to the Kidway and Midway. The best savings comes when you pick a day that offers savings for both!

Lastly, save big on food, merchandise and other activities when you purchase a Blue Ribbon Bargain Book for just $5. This attempt is worth the savings even if you only use 2-3 out of the 100 coupons!

Staples

Not everything offered at the MN State Fair cost money! There are many options available that are either free or cost very little, and will keep you family busy during your visit to the fair!

Visit the Animals and Miracle of Birth Center

We hope our tips surrounding safety, savings and staples to visit while enjoying your yearly family visit to the MN State Fair are helpful. There is no doubt that attending the MN State Fair without the kids can be easier, but the memories and magic made with the kids at the MN State Fair are unforgettable.
