On the first Tuesday in August...
National Night Out is an annual nationwide event that encourages residents to get out in the community, meet neighbors, and partner with police.
5 Tips for Next Year's Neighborhood Block Party
1. Invites
Get the word out by creating invites a couple weeks in advance. Hang them around the neighborhood and/or drop in everyone’s mailbox!
It’s always great to provide name tags so that everyone can get more familiar and learn each other’s names! It also takes the pressure off if you’ve forgotten a name or two because, mom life!
3. Menu
As you can see in my invite above, we provided the taco bar and asked everyone to bring a side dish to share. Pot Luck style! As far as beverages, I think it’s completely acceptable to ask everyone to bring their own beverage, or if you are feeling extra generous, bottle water is always a good idea. As well as juice boxes for the kids and maybe beer for some adults!
4. Adult & Kid Activities
This year we brought out our bags/cornhole game for both the adults and kids. We also had a table with coloring supplies and put out chalk! It was super simple and then City Council showed up with mini golf game!
5. Have Fun!
Enjoy the night. Talk to your neighbors, get to know each other, and let the kids play! After hosting, our neighborhood felt more connected and more welcoming than ever before.
