Hiring a doula wasn't something I had ever considered until after my husband and I were expecting our first baby.
I had gone back and forth for months as I talked to friends and coworkers about their experiences, did some minimal research online, and juggled the idea of adding another expense to an already incredibly expensive undertaking. My husband had never even heard of a doula before but said he would be willing to look into it if it was something I wanted. It wasn’t until I was about 35 weeks pregnant that I finally decided to pull the trigger and we began frantically searching for a doula. I was nervous we wouldn’t be able to find anyone with availability that late in the game, let alone someone who was a great fit for our family.
We struck gold with Stephanie. We knew within minutes of our initial interview with her that we wanted her to be a part of our daughter's birth. She was incredibly knowledgeable, gave us all the facts we never knew we didn't know, and let us lead the way in the decision-making.
She took the time to get to know us each personally and made sure we knew she was always there for us. She talked through symptoms with me in the days leading up to delivery, helped us advocate for ourselves at the hospital, gave my husband the tools to help me during contractions, and helped me feel so strong and empowered throughout my labor. One of the things I love best about How 2 Mom is that the support doesn’t stop there. Breastfeeding was very difficult for me the first few weeks and Stephanie was there every step of the way through texts, phone calls, and a home visit to give me tips, tricks, and reassurances that I really needed.
We will absolutely hire Stephanie again with any future pregnancies and have recommended her to all of our friends and family.
It is never too late to get the support you need! Having her be a part of this experience was absolutely priceless and we are so grateful that she came into our lives.
