Top 10 Hacks to Run an Efficient Household

There’s a lot to manage as a parent, and our households are a big one. Having systems and routines in place can make the difference in your anxiety level and how you show up as a wife and mom. In this blog, we are sharing our top 10 tips to running an efficient household! Once you implement these tips, you will feel in control of your household and a lot less stressed out by all of the to do’s!

Make Your Bed Everyday

It's hard to feel productive some days as a mom. We can pick up all day long, and still feel like we go to bed in a messy house! Making my bed every morning helps me motivate and start my day. It also helps me feel a sense of completion, even if it's just in one area!

Declutter

Too much stuff can create a sense of panic and an out of control feeling. It also makes staying organized and clean more difficult. I have really learned that less is more in my more recent years as a mom. Last year we completely decluttered our home with the help of my friend Kelsey, and boy did it feel good. Have a Place for Everything

With decluttering, comes organizing! It is much easier to pick up quickly and run an efficient household when everything has a home! Click on the photo above to learn more about Kelsey and her organizing business. This task can go much smoother and is more likely to get done with help!

A Load of Laundry a Day

With five people living under one roof, laundry can pile up quickly! There is nothing worse than having to spend an entire day washing, folding and putting away clothes. Something that has really helped decrease the stress of household duties and has helped things stay organized is doing one load of laundry a day! And by one load, I mean wash, dry, fold and put them all away that day. Don't procrastinate. Just get it done and you will feel so much better, productive, and a lot less stressed!

Run your Dishwasher Everynight

Just like the laundry, it is super helpful to run your dishwasher every night before going to bed. That way you wake up every morning to clean dishes, and a fresh start to your day!

Meal Prep

Having your dinners planned out and groceries in the fridge for the week will help decrease stress and help things run efficiently throughout the week. This is also a great tool to keep your budget in tack by staying in and eating all your meals at home together as a family.

Brain Dump

Make notes of any chores and tasks you have been meaning to catch up on! Anything! Having things laid out in front of you rather than just boggling your brain can really help!

We often implement this practice on Sunday nights, but you may add things throughout the week. Check out our Easy Like Sunday Morning blog post linked on the photo above to learn more about this practice and others we implement to start our weeks out right.

Check your Schedule Daily & Time Block

There is no possible way you can remember and manage all of the to do's in your head. Taking that brain dump, and then writing it all out and checking your schedule daily will help you stay organized and on top of things! Time blocking is one of my favorites. It helps us block certain times for certain activities. Doing this will prevent you from trying to do too many things at once.

Review Paperwork Everyday

Go through all the paperwork you receive in the mail and from the kids' school EVERY SINGLE DAY. Don't let it pile up and get out of control. This way, you're reviewing the days work with your child which will spark some great questions about their day. You will also be on top of all the things happening and needed for everyone in the household. We decide what should be saved, and what can be recycled! We keep anything educational that could help with homework assignments in her room, and put the special artwork in her saved folder in my office. If there is something you are unsure about, you can always just take a picture.

Delegate

And lastly, as much as you want or feel the need to do it all on your own, you can’t! And you shouldn’t! You will burn out. Running a household and family takes a village! I am not afraid to admit that there are times I ask for help.

There are times my house gets deep cleaned from a wonderful cleaning company. I also get my groceries delivered, and Mindful Menu helps me plan my meals!
