Updating Our Nest

If there is anything I have learned as a homeowner is that everything takes time, especially when most of your projects are DIY! I’ve also learned quickly that less is more! Over the last almost ten years we have been in the same house, and every year we try to focus on one big project. We saw so much potential when we purchased it and it has been so fun to watch our vision come to life! Here is just a peak into the projects we have worked on over the years.

Kitchen Remodal

This was the first big project we focused on. My one deal breaker when searching for a home was a big kitchen…well this home had an alley kitchen and if you don’t know what that is….it’s a very small kitchen! But there was huge potential for a big kitchen and open concept for the main living spaces so that was our first focus! With the help of my dad, step-dad, and a few special family friends, we did everything on our own! And for the supplies like the new cabinets and countertops, we order those through Home Depot!

Living Area

During the kitchen remodel we knocked down a wall to create the open concept! We have repainted and redecorated this space twice now since. Trends change and a nice fresh coat of paint and some redesigning always feels good!

Front Yard

The previous owners had a green thumb and because of the shade in the front yard they decided to plant and create a landscapers dream in the front yard. However, it left for very little space for our kids to run and play, and the upkeep was a lot! So, we replanted all we could salvage, built a retaining wall, created a patio area for our entry and garbage cans, repainted the front of our house, and the entire front yard has a different look!

Backyard & Pool

One of the biggest selling points of our home was the inground 9 ft pool in the backyard! When we purchased the home back in 2012, no one really valued or wanted a pool, or I should say the work a pool can bring. But Brian knew we would want to spend hours in our backyard, swimming with our kids, and during the pandemic we sure were grateful! Now, everyone wants a pool!

However, like I said earlier, the previous owners had a green thumb and there was a lot of foliage everywhere, especially in the backyard which only left less space and brought over more creatures! So after years and years, and hours and hours of saving and working, we finally have the backyard oasis we have dreamed of! Now, the summers are spent at home, bbq-ing, hosting, laughing and of course, lots of swimming!

What's to Come...

Next on the list, we need bigger bathrooms and closets! Brian and I also have big plans to expand our bedroom and one day, move the kids downstairs! We will keep you posted!
